Tips on Guadeloupe Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Guadeloupe Warnings and Dangers

Guadeloupe is a beautiful French Caribbean island great for visiting and relaxing on the beach. However, like most places, Guadeloupe comes with a few warnings and dangers to avoid on your trip.

Falling Coconuts

For those never hit by a falling coconut before, take heed. It might not be something you’ll think of when lying on the beach, but those hard coconuts will do serious harm if one hits you. Also, if you are renting a car try not to park under the palm trees. The falling coconuts will dent the top of the car and possibly cost you money when you return it.

Cat Calling

Local men may catcall women during the day, and may get rowdier in the evening. Don’t walk alone at night and ignore all attempts at communication.

Local Animals

Mosquitoes are worse when it’s humid and hot and near swamp areas to the North. Jellyfish are visible in the water close to the beach and they will sting you if you try to touch them. Also, watch for sea urchins in the water. You may step on one and get their spokes stuck in your feet. They emit a poison that will cause pain.

Driving at Night and Other Dangers

If you drive at night, go slow. There aren’t any streetlights and the roads are narrow and steep on the mountains. Stay sharp, as visibility is poor at night. If you are interested in traveling to other islands, skip taking the small unreliable airline service and travel by boat instead. However, riding on the boat can cause seasickness if the waters are rough, so pack an anti-nausea medication.
