The Caribbean city of Montego Bay is the capital of St. James parish, and also one of the largest cities in Jamaica. It’s a fantastic place for tourists to stop for a day and go shopping.

Shopping in Montego Bay is fun and the local shop owners are very friendly, although sometimes a little pushy. There are several market places in Montego Bay to shop for local crafts, and the prices are typically very fair. Still, haggling is expected among local shop owners. Among other things to buy, you should think about picking up one of the many wood carvings that are locally made. You can also buy clothing, stone and marble carvings, necklaces, hats, and more. The best souvenirs to pick up are any of the handicrafts made by local Jamaicans.

Specific Stores

Sona is a great place to shop for a bargain. They carry everything from small souvenir trinkets to alcohol and the famed wooden carvings. You can also get a good exchange rate for your currency, and the staff is very helpful and charming. Another place to visit is Tony’s craft stall, which is located in the corner of the Doctors Cave Beach Hotel gateway. There are actually craft stalls of this kind everywhere along the Hip Strip, a favored destination among tourists.
