9 Great Crossbody Bags for Travel

Crossbody bags are the ideal daypack for travel—they are more secure and foil pickpockets better than over-the-shoulder purses or backpacks, and they don’t immediately mark you as a tourist. The best crossbody bags for travel are ultra-lightweight or have anti-theft features, like these nine great bags.

Travelon Anti-Theft Crossbody Messenger

Travelon’s versatile Anti-Theft LTD Crossbody Messenger can be worn as a crossbody bag, or you can detach the strap and carry it as a clutch. 5 Shoes That Are Good for Your Feet, According to Doctors

We asked experts—the spokesperson for the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) as well as the team physician for the Chicago Bulls, White Sox, and Joffrey Ballet—about shoes that are good for your feet. Here’s what shoes they recommend you pack on your next walking-intensive trip.

“Healthy travel shoes should have arch support, a thicker sole, and shock absorption. A breathable fabric is a bonus. Sneakers should be your go-to when traveling. A casual sneaker should do the trick without weighing down your bags,” says APMA Podiatrist and spokesperson Dr. Priya Parthasarathy.

“If you have to do open-toed, avoid flip-flops and do a more supportive sandal. Something thicker, with arch support and a depression in the heel. My favorite sandals for travel are Birkenstocks.”

[st_related]We Wore These Shoes for 100 Miles to Find the Best Ones[/st_related]

Dr. Priya Parthasarathy tells travelers to look for the following when shoe shopping:

  • The shoe should not be able to fold completely in half.
  • You should have some flexibility in the toes but you should not be able to have the front of the shoe touch the back of the shoe.
  • It should also have a firm heel cup and should not collapse when you squeeze it.
  • A bonus is a removable arch support which will allow you to slide your orthotics or additional arch support in if needed.

[st_related]The Most Comfortable Travel Shoes[/st_related]

Dr. Kamran S. Hamid, an orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon for Midwest Orthopedics at Rush and team physician for the Chicago Bulls, White Sox, and Joffrey Ballet also weighed in.

“In general, the best shoes for traveling are those that have adequate support and are comfortable. Hoka shoes are a newer brand that are tremendously light while still providing great support and cushioning. Additionally, they have a slight curvature in the front and back of the shoe which takes some stress off of the middle of the foot for long periods of walking. These are great shoes for long-distance runners that we have repurposed for patients with foot/ankle arthritis or pain.”

If you’re looking for a podiatrist-approved shoe, Dr. Parthasarathy recommends the following:

The Best Travel Leggings of 2020

Whenever I travel, leggings are a must. They’re the perfect travel-day outfit, especially when paired with a baggy sweater or long shirt, for a chic but comfortable look. There’s so much to love about a good pair of travel leggings. They’re slimming, they stretch, and they don’t take up tons of room in your suitcase. Plus, should you feel the need to utilize the hotel gym or join a pop-up yoga class, you’ll be ready for a workout.

The Best Travel Leggings

Below I’ve divided the best travel leggings into the three most useful categories for travelers: the best leggings with pockets (to hold your phone and documents), the best leggings to make a fashion statement (to show off your personality), and the best leggings that don’t look like leggings (to travel comfortably incognito).

The sleek cool Speed Up Tight has sweat-wicking fabric and four-way stretch—and four pockets. With two side pockets large enough for your phone and two waistband pockets perfect for tucking away cash, these leggings are a great choice for the active traveler with stuff to carry.

alo High-Waist Cargo Legging

The High-Waist Cargo Leggings from alo features numerous pockets throughout the leg but are stylish enough to run errands in, and comfortable enough to work out in. They’re also available in multiple colors, such as black, bone, and olive branch.

Clever Travel Companion

The Clever Travel Companion leggings pack comfort and security into one ultra-functional pair of pants. These leggings for travel are equipped with two zippered pockets. The first is big enough to hold your phone and passport; the second slightly smaller pocket is still large enough to fit your credit cards and keys.

If you’re a big fan of the color block style, make sure to check out the Outdoor Voice’s tri-colored Zoom Leggings, too.

Columbia PFG Tidal™ Legging

Up for some serious adventure or maybe just a day hike, but want cute leggings that still work? Sturdier than the average yoga pants, the PFG Tidal™ Leggings will perform well in the great outdoors. Made of moisture-wicking and UPF 50 sun-protecting fabric, these travel leggings are smooth to the touch and even include a large pocket on the side.

Girlfriend Collective Trail Compressive High-Rise Legging

Plaka Slipper Socks Review: The Pair of 'Shoes' We're Living in Right Now

Give your feet some love with these super comfy slipper socks by the footwear brand Plaka. As most of the U.S. is in mild springtime weather, it’s just a little too hot for slippers but too cold to go barefoot all the time. Enter the slipper sock. With these slipper socks, you can check your mail, take the dog out, and work from home without having to change your shoes. And the best part is, they’re foldable and super packable, so we can take them with us once we’re traveling again.

Plaka Slipper Socks Review

Price and Where to Buy: Plaka Slipper Socks are available on Amazon and Plaka’s website for $29.95.

How the Plaka Slipper Socks Rate

  • Usefulness: 9/10. While in quarantine I find my feet getting too warm in my normal slippers, but I also keep having to put on socks and shoes when I go to take out the trash or check my mail. The slipper socks have solved both of these problems and are super comfortable while I’m sitting at my desk.
  • Durability: 9/10. I wouldn’t go for a long walk in these, but the rubber bottoms are very durable and even have some grip support.
  • Portability: 10/10. The slipper socks fold up super small so you can easily travel with them or throw them in your purse.
  • Style: 8/10. I bought the heather gray color, so the neutral color combined with the minimalist style means these slipper socks go with pretty much everything.

Final Verdict: If, like me, you’re struggling with which footwear to wear while working from home, these slipper socks are your answer. They are comfortable, have a minimalist style, and are the perfect fit: not too tight to the point that they’re heat-constricting, but also not so loose that they lack support.

L.L.Bean Quilted Riding Jacket

L.L.Bean quilted riding jacket

Most easy-to-pack winter jackets look like activewear and are tough to pull off on a city trip, but L.L.Bean’s Quilted Riding Jacket is the ultimate winter coat that can do both. Its classic design goes with any outfit and won’t make you look like a tourist who just wandered into town off a hike. Thanks to the insulated synthetic lining, it will keep you warm in -15 degrees F (with moderate activity). Want to layer this jacket? It has adjustable waist tabs that let you customize the fit based on what you’re wearing.

Based in the snow sports mecca of Aspen, Colorado, since 1947, Obermeyer knows a thing or two about cold and wet weather. It’s developed a patented HydroBlock Sport fabric tested to resist nearly 400 inches of rain (and roll stain-causing liquids right off). Find it in the Tuscany II Jacket, which also uses another unique Obermeyer material: Thermore Classic insulation, which is thin and light but still warm. The hood is removable and adjustable, as is the faux fur trim.

Patagonia PrimaLoft Nano Puff Coat

Patagonia’s PrimaLoft Nano Puff Hoody (available for men and women) is the lightest jacket I’ve ever owned. The women’s version weighs just 10 ounces (the men’s is 12.8 ounces), yet is ultra-warm and waterproof. Unlike some other methods of insulation, you can feel good about this jacket: Its 60-g PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco is more than 50 percent recycled material.

The North Face Arrowood Triclimate Jacket

The north face arrowood triclimate jacket

The North Face’s versatile Arrowood Triclimate Jacket (available for women and men) is a three-in-one coat that’s perfect for travel: You can wear the waterproof, windproof shell or comfy inner fleece liner by themselves, or combine them to make a warm winter jacket. The hood, wrist cuffs, and hem cinch cord are all adjustable for a better fit. This breathable coat is designed for hiking and other outdoor activities.

Lululemon Pack It Down Jacket

The Pack It Down Jacket can be folded up into the right-hand pocket, making it one of the best packable down jackets for women. The fabric is weather-resistant, and the 700-fill-power goose down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard. You can remove the hood to further cut down on weight and space.

[st_related]How to Pack for a Winter Vacation[/st_related]

Arc’teryx Men’s Cerium LT Hoody

The Cerium LT Hoody from Arcteryx is incredibly lightweight—just 10.8 ounces—yet it’s surprisingly warm thanks to its combination of goose down and synthetic insulation. 10 Products You Need from Sephora's Spring Sale

It’s time to give your skincare and beauty routine a spring refresh, just in time for Sephora’s bi-annual sale. For top-tier Rouge members, the Sephora sale officially started April 17, with 20 percent off your entire order until May 1. VIB members get sale access from April 21 to 29 for 15 percent off orders, and Insiders can shop the sale from April 23 to April 27 with 10 percent off orders. If those terms don’t mean that much to you just know starting April 23rd, the entire site is 10% off with the promo code SPRINGSAVE.

This is the time for stocking up on your favorite Sephora products and finding something new to battle any stress-triggering skin issues (we feel you). Here are our 10 favorite products to get you through self-isolation and beyond. Beauty addict pro tip: Don’t forget to pick your free Sephora samples in the online checkout.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

Don’t feel like washing your hair? We get it. Skip the shower and spritz Living Proof dry shampoo into your roots instead. It actually cleans oil from the hair, instead of just masking it—and it smells heavenly. Spray, brush through, and join your Zoom call looking fresh.

Rose Quartz Facial Roller

Show your skin a little love with this Rose Quartz Facial Roller. Use the small or large rose quartz (known for its “love” energy) rollers to gently reduce puffiness, stimulate drainage, and apply face oil. Store the roller in the fridge for a boosted cooling effect. You can face massage away while bingeing your favorite shows—skin care is rarely this easy.

Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Creme

When Ole Henriksen launched this game-changing eye cream in 2018, it was impossible to find the jars online and in shelves for months. Why? It works—and it does double duty. The cream contains vitamin C to brighten the under eyes, collagen to firm the skin, and it creates a canvas for seamlessly putting on concealer (if you want more coverage). Banana isn’t an ingredient, it refers to the yellow tone of the cream, which brightens and color corrects. P.S. Your writer is wearing this as she types.

Kiehl’s Since 1851 Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Kiehl’s miracle in a bottle has essential oils and distilled botanicals like lavender and evening primrose that work to soften skin and refine the look of pores overnight. You only need a few drops for results by morning—the reason it has almost 80,000 hearts on Sephora. Add yours.

Charlotte Tilbury Mini Pillow Talk Lipstick & Liner

Now might not seem like the time for a new lip look, but hear us out. The Charlotte Tilbury lipstick and liner basically broke the internet when they launched. Why? The subtle color re-shapes and re-sizes your lips for a natural, but noticeable pout. If you’re distance dating over Facetime (or dialing in for a work presentation), a few quick lip swipes will effortlessly amp up your look.

SLIP Silk Pillowcases

Spending more time relaxing in bed lately? We’re guilty as charged. Upgrade your linens with celebrity-favorite SLIP silk pillowcases. Unlike cotton and synthetic satin, silk allows the skin to breathe and the fibers won’t get caught in your hair—allowing for a perfect night of beauty rest. If these silk pillowcases are good enough for Chrissy Teigen to sleep on, they’re good enough for us.

Herbivore Coconut Milk Bath Soak

Since you can’t get to the tropics anytime soon, bring relaxing and healing coconut properties straight to your bathroom. Herbivore Coconut Milk Bath Soak is formulated with vanilla notes and coconut milk powder, which moisturizes, softens, and soothes the skin. A few scoops go a long way toward vacation bliss vibes.

Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides

Have you considered drinking your skincare routine? Collagen is a needed building block for the body, and adding it to your diet can help hair and nails grow. We love Vital Proteins collagen, it’s easy to digest, flavorless, and easily mixes into a smoothie, oatmeal, or with coffee and water. Drink up!

Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3

You can’t get to a salon right now to touch up your roots (sorry) but you can give yourself a hair-restoring professional salon treatment at home with Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3. Platinum blondes swear by this miracle worker—it actually relinks the broken disulfide bonds caused by chemical (hair bleaching) and thermal (your flatiron and hairdryer) processes. What does that mean? It basically fixes damaged hair. Seriously.

Drunk Elephant – The Littles

Looking to get a skincare system you can actually understand and that delivers results without spending hundreds? Look no further than Drunk Elephant – The Littles. It’s a stellar starter kit that contains eight of the beloved brand’s bestsellers for morning and evening skincare, with everything from a jelly cleanser to a hydration serum to SPF. See what works for your skin, then go ahead and invest in the full-size bottles.

The Comfiest, Most Stylish Men’s Joggers Have Been Hiding in Plain Sight

As many of my friends and family know, I never really allow myself to splurge when it comes to comfort—sale rack sweatpants at Kohl’s have been my shtick since infancy, and up until recently, I never saw the problem with that. My sweatpant style was baggy, raggedy, and never eye-catching.

I didn’t think athleisure (or couchleisure, for people like myself) clothing needed to look good, because who was ever going to see me? It took me until the current quarantine to understand the upside of a handsome comfy pant—because no matter the hour of the day, whether I’m lying around or running an essential errand, I am in sweats.

Although I say I don’t care what people think of me, I do. I’m human. I don’t like heading outside looking like a literal plastic bag, but I refuse to wear jeans right now. It just seems wrong. I noticed I was spending a lot less money overall since I’m always home and decided that if any time was the right time, it’s now. I’d finally switch it up a bit and buy a decent pair of cozy athletic pants that’ll last a lifetime—and that’s how I found the Stadium Joggers by Public Rec.

I’ve swooned over the jogger style from afar for a bit now, seeing them draping mannequins at the mall and covering celebrities in paparazzi photos, so I knew that was the style I was aiming for. Once I saw the Public Rec Stadium Joggers, I knew they were for me. They come in three different colors, but I opted for navy because I hope to wear them in the office in the future. If anyone asks, I’m going to lie and say they’re slacks. It’s a solid scheme in my eyes.

When the joggers arrived, I noticed that the material was nothing like any sweats I’ve owned before. They felt extremely breathable and slipped on like a glove, generously hugging my ankles with a roomier upper area. Overall, I felt much better than I did wearing my old ugly sweats.

I can’t say I’ve taken them off much, to be honest. Although I’ve done almost nothing in them aside from run to the liquor store and supermarket, I’m happy that these pants can work equally well in a casual setting, at home, and for a workout. When I finally get off my butt and use this quarantine to exercise a little bit, I’ll definitely opt for these instead of basketball shorts. But let’s hope the quarantine ends before I get bored enough to go on a run.

The Best Products for Stress-Free Nighttime and Morning Routines

There’s no better time than now to invest in your self-care routine. For the most part, each of these steps can easily be replicated while traveling, and most products are available in TSA-compliant sizes.

Products That’ll Improve Your Morning Routine

Start your day off on the right foot with a healthy meal and an energy boost. Here are some of my favorite breakfast products.

Next, rejuvenate your skin with these morning routine skincare essentials. All of the below are unisex bath, body, and face products like deodorants, facial cleansers, and deodorants.

Depending on your personal preference, your hair and beauty morning routine might be more refined, but I like to stick to these staples. Depending on how my hair decides to look, I’ll either calm it down with oil or spruce it up with dry shampoo.

Products That’ll Improve Your Nighttime Routine

Relax both your mind and body as you start to wind down your day. I like to have a cup of tea while reading or doing a few light yoga poses.

Your skin repairs itself while you sleep, so make sure you help nurture it with serums, masks, and moisturizers.

Personally, I think comfortable sleepwear is the ultimate sleep inducer. Here are my favorite PJs and what’s on my bed that makes it uber-comfy.

Last step? Some dreamy meditation music or an adult bedtime story. Thankfully, we just launched Virtual Vacations, a series of dreamy audio tours of some of our favorite destinations. Tune in and drift off …

12 Products to Keep You Sane While Stuck at Home

Welp, times are weird, but you don’t need to hear that again. Nonetheless, welcome back to Elevated: Travel Style for the Modern Man—I hope you’re feeling well and staying safe out there while stuck at home. If you’ve been as bored as I’ve been these past few weeks, I’m happy to know I’m not alone. I’ve counted the tiles in my bathroom three times since March 6, you know, just to be extra sure. (There are 27.)

Aside from math, I’ve been experimenting with cooking styles, improving my home, and discovering new ways to revamp my old lifestyle. I figure being stuck at home this long is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so if I can take advantage of it, I’m going full throttle. These are the comforting items getting me through this uncomfortable period of time.

At the beginning of whatever the hell is going on, I had this huge fear that my local liquor store would close. Although she’s still wide open, I panicked and accidentally bought a case of wine on NakedWines—and by accidentally I mean it was fully intentional. Upon skimming the site, I noticed members were even offered some serious discounts, so of course I signed up. I decided to go with a selection of New World White Wonders to let myself pretend I’m traveling again. Each bottle is individually listed in all of the site’s curated packages, but I chose to turn a blind eye and let myself be surprised. I’ve loved every selection so far.

Allbirds Wool Loungers

These Wool Loungers are really the only pair of shoes I’ve been wearing for a month straight, and I refuse to apologize for it. I’m all about an easy slip-on design even when I’m not feeling like a lazy sack, but these are great for both long walks (accompanied by face masks and gloves) to the supermarket and short walks to throw out the trash.

GoWISE USA Air Fryer

After being bombarded with food photo after food photo in my group chat, I discovered how popular air fryers are amongst my friends, only to find out they’re just super popular in general. Have I been living under a rock? No. But have I been bored living off canned soup and mac and cheese for the past month under self-quarantine? Absolutely. After completing my first air fry, which was homemade garlic parmesan green bean fries, I was shaken to my core that I hadn’t bought one of these sooner. I’ve now ditched the cooking oil entirely and started throwing everything in the air fryer, making homemade chicken cutlets, fried eggplant, and potato chips. It cuts cooking time in half, creates a dramatically healthier meal, and is easy to use. You just pop whatever in, walk away, and it’s done. I’m obsessed.

Weighted Gravity Blanket

If the weight of the world is feeling like a bit too much right now, I suggest adding a few pounds. This weighted blanket from Gravity is seriously getting me through it, simulating the feeling of being hugged—which is something we definitely all need right now. Swaddling your bod and reviving key pressure points helps produce a deeper, more peaceful sleep, so this blanky is totally worth it.

Trade Coffee

Although I’ve really been into that fluffy coffee drink everyone’s been raving about (you know, the one where you vigorously mix water, sugar, and instant coffee), during my time at home I’ve stumbled across Trade Coffee and I’ve been having a ton of fun with it. The brand helps you discover your favorite brew by mailing different blends directly to your door. With almost 400 distinct tastes on offer, the possibilities are endless.

Harry’s Razor

I find grooming very important during this time, but I recently shaved my beard and now I regret it. Normally I’ll use my Harry’s razor for shaving my head and cleaning up my beard, not to fully embody a Cabbage Patch version of Rosie O’Donnell—but that’s fine, we all make mistakes. As I wait for my peach fuzz to grow back, I’ll be anticipating my next clean-up with this bad boy.

Marshall Bluetooth Wireless Headphones

While I’m on the job, I always need to be listening to something. It helps me concentrate and get into a steady workflow. When I first started working from home, I’d catch up on all my news using my TV, but began to feel a little bad for my sleeping roommates. These Marshall headphones are an awesome alternative; I’m still getting my news, hitting up some favorite podcasts, and checking out some new albums. My favorite part: I can leave my work station and head anywhere in my apartment to snag a bite to eat or clean a couple of dishes thanks to the wireless Bluetooth connection.

Boy Smells Ash Scented Candle

I’ve been burning my Boy Smells candle for a few months now, and at this point it’s time for a new one. There are tons of subtleties packed into these. They will easily fill a room with a delicious, non-overwhelming scent. I’ve dabbled in a few other scents, but at the moment I’m ready to find out what this ash scent will bring.

LARQ Self-Cleaning Water Bottle

One thing I have to pay more attention to is drinking water. No, seriously, the majority of the liquids entering my body lately have come in the form of coffee and alcohol. I got this self-cleaning water bottle to combat my lack of hydration, and it’s so cool, using non-toxic UV-C LED technology to eliminate bacteria and other viruses. Now that I have this, I’m about to throw my Brita in the trash.

Giant Checkers Reversible Rug

I am a savage when it comes to checkers. I will fight to the death and quadruple-jump with no hesitation just so I can have the bragging rights—it is semi-problematic. With that being said, after painting a checkerboard on my coffee table with my roommate, I decided to go ahead and purchase a board we can play on our roof when we want to get some fresh air. I’m really excited about the future of this board since it’s made of a rug-like material, easily packable for beach trips and hikes.

Cardon 3-in-1 Men’s Hydro Boost Gel Moisturizer

If I’m gaining weight during this quarantine, I might as well focus on making my face look good. I’ve been pretty dry now that I shaved my beard, so Cardon’s Boost Gel Moisturizer has been a game-changing lightweight nighttime application I’ve been using for the past couple of weeks. I barely realize it’s on my face since it’s not as goopy and viscous as moisturizers I’ve tried in the past, and when I wake up after a night of use, I can really notice a difference in the way my skin looks and feels.

The Essential Spices Collection

As mentioned, I’ve been cooking a lot of new recipes lately. Whether I’m creating a disaster or a masterpiece, my lack of flavor was really showing in my first couple of meals. Turns out salt and pepper don’t always do the job, folks. I thought $99 for all these high-grade spices was a deal I could get behind. Everything I’m making now is so much more flavorful than it was previously, so I’m 100 percent purchasing from these guys again. *chef’s kiss*

Tyler's Fashion Picks for April 2020

For info on these editor-selected items, click to visit the seller’s site. Things you buy may earn us a commission.

When it comes to fashion, I’m not dressing to impress anyone. I’ve been in my living room since March. Maybe I’ll put on a button-down every once in a while for a Zoom happy hour, but aside from that, it’s comfy tees and breathable boxer briefs almost 24/7. A staple of my look is a large plush couch throw wrapped around me from head to toe, with a cool mug escaping the front of the blanket as if I’m begging for more hot coffee (which I am). Lastly, socks are a must in my apartment because no matter how much I vacuum, there always seem to be crumbs on the floor.
